Emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT) is a proven counselling treatment method to improve relationships. I use this model of therapy to help couples develop more positive interactions, enhance their commitment, and maintain respectful, caring relationships.
I work collaboratively with both partners to first uncover patterns and deepen insight into underlying reasons for negative cycles in the relationship. I help each understand what issues are being activated, and how their past experiences or training is being recreated or contributing to present misunderstandings.
Through our sessions, I help partners become cognizant of learned ways of relating, the underlying triggers that can lead to conflict and ways to break through impasses and change habitual reactive patterns.
I give practical exercises to develop more effective communication skills and strengthen each person's ability to set and maintain respectful boundaries. This work will help partners learn how to discuss constructively, better understand each other's intentions, share ideas for resolution and deepen their caring and appreciation.
